Brian Cox & Thin Lizzy's Darren Wharton - Dare In-store Signing @ X-Records 1991

A long time ago back in the early 90's, we had the pleasure of hosting a signing session from Dare. Dare was formed in 1985 by former Thin Lizzy keyboard player Darren Wharton after Phil Lynott had dissolved the band. By 1987, Dare had gained a local following in Oldham and in 1987 were signed with a four-year deal by A&M. In the 1980s and early 90s, Brian Cox was a keyboard player with the rock band Dare. Dare released two albums with Cox – Out of the Silence in 1988 and Blood from Stone in 1991.

The band's debut album, Out of the Silence, was released in 1988 on A&M Records. It was recorded in Los Angeles at singer Joni Mitchell's private studio in Beverly Hills. The lineup for this album consisted of Darren Wharton (vocals/keyboards), Vinny Burns (guitars), Martin 'Shelley' Shelton (bass), James Ross (drums), and Brian Cox (keyboards).

The band hosted a signing session in the shop to promote their up coming album "Blood from Stone". The band arrived early on the day after not in the best of spirits as the two previous instore signings hadn't been well attended. We suggested going for a drink and ended up spending few hours in the Swan Pub nearby for a 'couple' of pints, a couple soon turned into 5 or 6 and the signing session was a success with a packed out shop.

I was at this.Me & my mate Thaddeus O’Jones, had just been to see our probation officer.I was surprised how short they were, apart from Cox..Blood from the Stone was a departure from the 1st album, they went all ‘woah-woah-woah’,like Bon Jovi,& after the 1st few songs,it was boring.Heyho,I’d met someone from Thin Lizzy. The real Thin Lizzy!!
Dare’s more recent albums are so boring,so dull & repetitive…& Wharton herself,is a card carrying member of the Conservative party,& a fan of Nigel Farage, too, according to that Twitter.
